NU Image / Millennium Films pick up 'Rambo 4'
Moviehole have the scoop on the fourth Rambo movie, which looks like its on the move, and will begin shooting early next year. Stallone is back as John Rambo for one last time after Dimension Films sold the movie rights to Millennium Film and Nu Image.

"Rambo IV" begins preliminary shooting in Bulgaria in January 2006, as Nu Numage/Millennium Films acquire film rights from Miramax/ Dimension Films.

Sofia, Bulgaria, will be the first stop for the third sequel in the Reagan-era franchise with filming locations in India and the USA to follow.

According to Stallone, the new plotline sees the character of Rambo as having "assimilated into the tapestry of America", living with his family - including daughter - in relative peace for the past fifteen years but still working for the military, when work pressures force him to move his family to the American outback. The Navajo-Indian former Green Beret and his family are then subject to an attack by white-supremacists, and Rambo has to risk life-and-limb in rescuing his 10-year old daughter from being held hostage.

Nu Image/ Millennium Films acquired the rights to the 'Rambo' film franchise, with their chairman, Avi Lerner, stating that Stallone is "one of the smartest guys I know." Having persuaded Stallone to co-star with a younger actor in 'Rambo IV', Lerner is confident about the film's future success. "It's a franchise," he says. "If No. 4 works, then you have a No. 5." Nu Image recently announced plans to produce "Poe", a film about the life and works of gothic author, Edgar Allen Poe, to the screen with Stallone helming the director's chair for the first time since 1985's smash-hit, 'Rocky IV', and scheduled to begin production prior to 'Rambo IV'.

So what of Alpha1Media's 'Holy War' treatment? Well, that has apparently been envisaged as a plausible future instalment for the franchise, with several elements being utilised for 'Rambo IV', including the return to Rambo's Navajo roots and domestication for the super-soldier with wife and family.

. Rambo - First Blood
Flashbacks of Vietnam torture send a drifter into a murderous revenge against the small town authorities who don't want his type around and get more than they bargained for as a result.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

. Rambo - First Blood II
Sent to Asia to allay fears that American MIA's are still being held by the Vietcong, Rambo finds instead that brutal prison camps abound and there's a place in one of them just waiting for him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

. Rambo - III
Rambo's old commanding officer is held prisoner in Afghanistan and he must infiltrate behind Soviet lines to bring him safely out. Never a man to worry about such minor trifles as the entire Russian army.

... Garth Franklin: Since you're still in fighting shape, will Rambo be back, too?

Sylvester Stallone: There has been movement in that area, yes. Of course, it won't be what you think - not the same Rambo with the headband. In keeping with some sort of believability, he would be passing the torch to a younger generation of high-tech combatants. We're working on an interesting premise where Rambo is brought back from living on a ranch somewhere, and because of his skills in jungle warfare and survival, he's asked to lead a young group in a search-and-rescue mission. They can't believe this decrepit guy is a war hero, but when their technology fails, they see where Rambo excels.

Rambo IV to begin filming in September
According to an interview with Sly Stallone in TV Guide, the long-awaited fourth chapter in John Rambo's post-War life will start filming in the Fall.

TVG: Some people think it means that your movie career is over.

Stallone: I hope to start shooting the next Rambo in September... but definitely the movie career has changed. And I thought, "Let me get past the prejudice of TV." Lately, some of the writing of TV is not the TV of the '70s or '80s.... It has grown up. It is Desperate Housewives, Rescue Me and Nip/Tuck. This is what films used to do in the '80s. TV is now cutting-edge.

Dimension are apparently behind "Rambo 4" - no word on what storyline they're using - there is one idea that has been pitched that involves Rambo going up against his son - but if the September filming date is as locked as a cupboard of valuables then we should hear something more concrete soon.

Rambo VS. Osama: Stallone Script in Works
It's Rambo to the rescue. Sylvester Stallone plans to resurrect his famed macho action hero to take on Taliban.

Stallone, 55, is at his Miami home working on script for fourth film featuring former Green Beret John Rambo, London's Sunday Times reports. In new story, Rambo parachutes into Afghanistan to battle leaders of Taliban.

One report says Stallone is toying with idea of his character capturing terror chief Osama bin Laden alive. Stallone couldn't be reached for comment yesterday.

But it wouldn't be first time Stallone's hero has gone marching with guns blazing into Afghanistan. In his last Rambo flick, brawny fighter went behind Soviet battle lines to rescue his former superior. In that 1988 film, "Rambo III," Sly joined Afghan fighters to oppose Russian invaders.

Earlier this year, Stallone said he had mixed feelings about coming back 13 years later for one more Rambo go-round. "I don't know if I'd look good in a thong anymore. In my fantasies, I'd love to do one more, but I don't think it would be in good taste at this age," he said in interview. But his feelings have apparently changed since attacks of Sept. 11.

Bob Weinstein of Miramax Films said last March that he hoped to convince Stallone to do one more Rambo movie. "We'd love nothing more than for Stallone to be involved. We think it's a billion-dollar property," Weinstein said. If "Rambo IV" goes before cameras before end of year, it could be ready by next summer.

Stallone's "Rambo" series began in 1982 with "First Blood" and gave rise to two more action movies in which fearless one-man army kicked villains' butts. His 3 "Rambo" and 5 "Rocky" films have grossed more than $2 billion combined. Reagan turned Amerika into Hollywood with himself as its star. Some called him "Ronny Rambo". Illusion is preferred birth after birth till Kaliyuga's end.

Reports that F. Gary Gray, John McTiernan and Martin Campbell are the frontrunners for the directors job. The thrust of the storyline is that John Rambo is hired to track down some nuclear weapons before they go boom. The film is tentative to go into production next summer for a release in Summer 2006.

Producers on Rambo 4
In Focus magazine talked to "Troy" director Wolfgang Petersen recently said:

"We also want to make another Rambo movie with our good buddy Sly Stallone. Things are being sorted out as we speak and we will get to produce another Rambo film. Stallone is waiting to see the script and then do his own polish from there as he did with the previous Rambo movies. People will be in for a big surprise with this new Rambo film, but don't worry says Kassar, Rambo still uses a machine gun and blows lots of things up. We also have a BIG fantasy movie in the works. This will be our HARRY POTTER and hopefully it will make our company C2 a billion dollars like Potter did for Warner Brothers".

When The News Blow Up
13.Nov.2001

The Sunday Times reports that 55-year-old Sylvester Stallone is busy writing the script for a fourth "Rambo" movie with a plot like you wouldn't believe: "Former Green Beret John Rambo parachutes into Afghanistan to battle leaders of the Taliban". This has naturally generated mixed feelings - and is kind of similar yet opposite to the third film in the series in which had Rambo teaming with the Afghan freedom fighters to hold off the Russians (in reality, it was a time when the US military backed Osama Bin Laden was helping hold off the Russians). Sly denied reports he is toying with the idea of capturing terror chief Osama bin Laden alive.
